16″ Painted Wooden Basket Cooler

This 16″ tall painted wooden basket cooler has a 1″ wide bentwood handle, and 1″ insulated core and lid. We bought it in the early ’90s, and although it looks identical to the Peterboro and Longaberger baskets this style, I can not find a stamp anywhere on it.

The basket is in perfect condition, used as a yarn holder/decoration for years; never as a cooler. The handle is very sturdy and would definitely hold up if used as such.

I sanded the entire basket lightly and painted with a gold metallic Ralph Lauren Patina paint, and dark blue chalk paint. I then covered that with a “denim” blue chalk paint. The trim is brown chalk paint with a violet undertone.

Distressed to slightly see the gold/dark patina underneath, and applied 2 coats of water-based poly-acrylic giving it a nice sheen.

I stained the interior dark underneath the easily removable insulated foam.

It would work great as an outdoor beverage holder on the deck, an extra-large picnic basket, or a giant Easter basket perhaps? (2 Year old used in photo for scale agrees with that one :))
