Rustic Farmhouse Chair – Red & Blue Chippy Paint – Original Paint Intact
This small chair would be the perfect addition to any farmer’s porch, entryway, den, or garden. It truly has a story to tell. Plus it has all of its original paint still intact!
Tests for lead came back negative, so my best guess would be that it originated in the ’80s sometime, but I’m honestly not 100% sure. It seems to have been painted twice throughout its lifetime; a bright beautiful blue, and a deep barn-red later in life.
I just couldn’t bring myself to remove it all.
While the wood underneath is also a gorgeous white oak, I chose to strategically sand and seal in the crackling and chipping paint. This left some of the oak visible as well.
3 coats of oil-modified polyurethane will ensure the paint will stay right where it is.
Red Rustic Farmhouse Chair Specs
It is on the smaller side measuring 31 1/2″ tall and 17 1/2″ wide. The seat is 16 1/2″ x 16″, most likely built for an adolescent, but has proven to hold up to at least 200 lbs+.
The (originally) split seat has a block of wood screwed into the bottom holding it together, which did not hold. I repaired it (with the help of Scott – my professional carpenter) with a Kreg Jig and wood glued the rest of it together with clear glue in order to maintain the rustic look while securing it properly. Rest assured, this chair was handmade and is more sturdy than anything I’ve seen built in my time that’s for sure!!
