Vintage Cast Iron and Wood School Desk
This Vintage Cast Iron and Wood School Desk has a Detached Chair and an easily adjustable height on both the desk and chair. The School Desk is dated to around the 1930s and has been restored to close to perfect condition.
At the highest setting, the desk measures 23 1/2″ W x 18″ D x 26″ T. The chair measures 12″ W x 12 1/2″ D x 26″ T. Adjusted to the lowest setting the desk and chair height goes down to 22″ T.
The desk had very light use throughout its lifetime, so very little restoration was really needed. All sediment has been scraped from the cast iron, which was then coated with Rustoleum Protective Enamel for a lasting finish. The inside of the cubby-type desk was also painted black to match the cast iron base of the chair and desk.
The top and front of the desk, as well as the chair, are gorgeous maple wood. The wood was sanded to remove most wear and tear, but a few student markings I found charming such as initials in the back of the seat, I left alone.
Stained with a natural wood/driftwood stain mix, and finished with a topcoat of oil-modified polyurethane.
All original parts are still intact. The chair swivels 180 degrees, easily and silently. Inside the desk, there is a small lever to set the desktop either slanted or horizontal if you need a straight and even workspace. There is space for an inkwell, and pencil holders on the top of the desk as well.
